A gorgeous, century-old Art Nouveau glass roof sits above the hotel's dazzling Jardin d'Hiver, casting a brilliant light over the abundance of palms and beautifully detailed 19th-century-style tables and chairs. The Jardin d'Hiver was recently completely restored, bringing natural daylight back to the hotel in a grand way. It is more casual than âle Meuriceâ and serves full meals as well as afternoon tea. Jazz musicians entertain daily from 7:00 pm to midnight.
An enchanted garden atmosphere is the theme of the Jardin d'Hiver, reinforced by its plant life where 70 exotic flowers are planted. Among them are 20 different species of orchids.
The Jardin dâHiver's china was designed to reflect this atmosphere of an enchanted garden, and has been specially created by French designer Isabelle Croz and produced by Philippe Deshoulières. The glasses are light mauve and apricot, colours created by Christallerie de Bretagne specifically for the Jardin d'Hiver.
The Jardin d'Hiver offers classic English afternoon tea, complete with finger sandwiches, traditional scones, cakes, French pâtisseries and a wide selection of teas, hot chocolates and coffees. Teas include seven very unusual varieties, such as Bai Mu Dan from China, Sencha Ariake from Japan, Grand Wu Long Top Fancy from Taiwan and Assam Maijan from India, but also classics such as Yunnan d'Or and Grand Lapsang Souchong from China. Additionally, the selection offers six aromatic teas, including Turkish Hammam tea, Tibetan Monk tea, Jasmine tea, Chung Feng and others.
For the health-conscious, the Jardin d'Hiver has a very unusual selection of herbal teas such as Wood Mallow, Hibiscus, Red Poppy, Peppermint and Balm-Gandem Thyme. A choice of 20 different mineral waters from all over Europe is available.
The Jardin d'Hiver also serves three top-quality hot chocolates, with blends from the Caribbean islands, South America and Madagascar. Coffee lovers will find their bliss in six very selective roasts from Kenya, Mexico, Costa Rica, Ethiopia and Papua New Guinea.
The Jardin d'Hiver serves an amazingly indulgent dessert that is to die for! It combines caramel ice cream, cut into portions at the table and served with caramel sauce, almonds, hazelnuts, vanilla cream and cherries. Originally created for the summer season only, it was added as a signature dessert due to its immense popularity and can now be enjoyed at any time of year.
